Seeking a reset under new head coach Habib Beye, Marseille spent the week in Marbella to rebuild energy and belief out of sight.
According to L'Équipe, the camp began on Monday afternoon after Champions League play-off heartbreak against Benfica, with strict privacy and no cameras.
The squad stayed at the five-star Kimpton Los Monteros, a 20-minute drive from the Marbella Football Center, using the mountain site for sessions and keeping a low profile.
It was Beye’s first full week. His assistants were only cleared on Wednesday night, joining him on Thursday, and the message focused on intensity, quicker transitions and improved fitness after Brest.
Long days mixed morning strength work with afternoon ball sessions, and internal feedback was positive. Beye held informal chats and avoided criticism before a pivotal week, Lyon on Sunday then Toulouse on Wednesday.
In one practice game Balerdi paired with Nayef Aguerd, with Facundo Medina and Timothy Weah wide, while Benjamin Pavard and CJ Egan-Riley featured opposite. Midfielder Tochukwu Nnadi worked with Pierre-Emile Höjbjerg, and the back four can switch to three with the ball.
Secrecy extended to travel and social media, with a low-profile return to Marseille due on Friday after a final session. Fitness stayed the priority, while Ramadan prompted individual plans such as naps, morning gym and later training to align with breaking the fast.
