Sorba Thomas unlocked the game in the 32nd minute with a whipped cross, as Stoke City beat Sheffield Wednesday 2-0. The winger is second in the Championship assist chart with 10.
Thomas' first major act was to burst down the right on a fast break and arc an early ball across the six-yard area, converted from close range. It set the tone for the rest of his afternoon.
Soon after, his set piece quality told again, with a driven corner recycled to the back post for Bosun Lawal to nod just over (38.). After the restart he found Steven Nzonzi with another inviting cross that drew a save from Pierce Charles (47.).
Thomas kept asking questions, slinging in a teasing delivery that Eric Junior Bocat headed on target (57.). He finished with five key passes and seven accurate crosses from 13, creating two big chances and repeatedly forcing The Owls' back line to retreat.
Because Stoke City's wing-backs held width and the forwards ran the channels, Thomas kept receiving in space to deliver early. His timing and variety of crosses ensured the visitors never settled.
Stoke City climb from 15th to 12th and visit Derby next. The Owls remain 24th and host Leicester City next.
