Mohamed Salah was once again on the scoresheet for Liverpool as they beat Bournemouth 0-2 to go nine points clear at the top of the Premier League table.

With Arsenal hosting Manchester City on Sunday, this game was Liverpool’s chance to put pressure on their title rivals. They were up against an in-form Bournemouth side, 11 without defeat in the Premier League.

But Liverpool were on an 18-game unbeaten un in the league, having lost just once this season. And they have Salah.

How long they have Salah is a question that needs answering, with the Egyptian’s contract up in the summer. He’s been heavily linked with a move away and is yet to agree a new deal.

“Everybody wants him, including us,” Arne Slot said of Salah in his pre-match press conference, when asked about Salah being linked with a move to Saudi Arabia.

“We want him to extend of course as well – that is clear. I’m not surprised that Saudi want him but I wouldn’t be surprised if other countries want him as well.

“He’s old enough and wise enough, and has done so many smart things in his career, that he will make the right decision for himself and, hopefully, for us as well.”

Salah has had an interesting start to 2025 in the Premier League, with two goals in his four games in January. This came after four goals in three games over the Christmas period. And one of those goals in January came from a penalty. But they all count.

He opened the scoring against Bournemouth with another penalty, his sixth of the season. No player has scored more from the spot in the Premier League than Salah this season. It was a significant goal too, Salah’s 20th league goal of the season.

In fact, it was the fifth time Salah has scored 20 goals in a single Premier League season. The Egyptian joined an exclusive group of players to achieve such a feat, with only Alan Shearer (seven), Sergio Aguero, Harry Kane (both six) and Thierry Henry (five) doing so.

Salah wasn’t done there either, making it 0-2 in the second half, with a beautiful curling effort. This one was, of course, from open play too, keeping quiet any that would be trying to call Salah a penalty merchant. Let’s not forget 15 of Salah’s 21 goals haven’t come from penalties. He’d still be fourth in the race for the Golden Boot if only his penalties didn’t count. If all penalties didn’t count, Salah would be third, behind Erling Haaland (17) and Alexander Isak (16).

The second goal brought another big moment. Salah is now the sixth-highest scorer in Premier League history, with a brace seeing him move ahead of Frank Lampard. Aguero will be the next target, on 184 goals.

Salah is also in the top 10 for all-time Premier League assists, with 82. Thirteen of those have come this season, again leading the way in the top-flight. He also sits top for chances created from open play.

Against Bournemouth, Salah had four shots and three on target, the most of any Liverpool player. He also led for touches in the opposition box (11), completed take-ons (two) and fouls won (three). Only Dominik Szoboszlai (three) created more chances than Salah’s two.

Salah has scored 301 goals now in his European career, 236 of which have come at Liverpool. And 11 have come in the Premier League against Bournemouth, with the Cherries becoming the SEVENTH club he’s hit double figures against. Only Alan Shearer (12) has double figures against more clubs in Premier League history.

Although February has just started, Salah may have wrapped up the Premier League’s Player of the Year award already.
