Leeds United are on the brink of mathematical safety after a pivotal weekend, with Opta’s supercomputer issuing a fresh predicted final Premier League table. According to yorkshireeveningpost.co.uk, the model makes a strong call in favour of the Whites.
Leeds beat Burnley 3-1 on Friday night to move nine points clear of the drop. That left them nine ahead of third-bottom Tottenham, seven in front of West Ham and four above Nottingham Forest, with all three rivals holding a game in hand.
West Ham then lost 3-0 at Brentford on Saturday, leaving them seven behind Leeds with just three games to play. A West Ham defeat against Arsenal on Sunday would make Leeds safe, and even a draw would likely be enough given the Hammers’ goal difference.
Crystal Palace’s defeat at Bournemouth also saw the Eagles slip below Leeds on goal difference. Tottenham climbed out of the bottom three by winning 2-1 at Aston Villa, while Forest won 3-1 at Chelsea to move within one point of Leeds.
Tottenham are now a point ahead of West Ham and six behind Leeds, and they host the Whites on Monday night.
In Opta’s latest projection, Arsenal finish top on 82 points, three clear of Manchester City on 79. Manchester United are forecast third on 69, ahead of Liverpool on 63, Aston Villa on 62 and Bournemouth on 56.
