Orri Óskarsson returns to pre-season on Thursday at Zubieta, intent on picking up where he left off. The Icelandic forward ended last term with five goals in the final eight league matches.
According to Diario Vasco, he joins the group aiming to reach the league kick-off in top condition.
That rise followed a first half blighted by a left rectus femoris injury, which sidelined him for the last four months of 2025. Fitness issues since arriving have led to a dietary overhaul and a tweaked summer programme.
While the sporting department could add another forward, he wants a bigger role and more starts. Matarazzo has used him as focal point with Oyarzabal in the No 10 role, a plan that could recur if he stays fit.
Óskarsson signed in summer 2024 from Copenhagen for 20 million euros plus 3 in add-ons, a move for future and present. He has not fully taken off, but when fit he has shown a scorer’s instinct.
He returns after four weeks off, five days later than most team-mates, having played for Iceland against Argentina on 10 June. This is his second pre-season with Real after a deadline-day 2024 arrival denied him that chance.
With Oyarzabal at the World Cup, he is the only centre-forward assured to stay as exits are sought for Karrikaburu and Carlos Fernández. It would not surprise if he started the league opener, either against Real Madrid if that game is not postponed, or against Betis.
