Manchester United interim manager Michael Carrick has updated on his future in the role after successfully securing Champions League qualification.

Victory over rivals Liverpool at Old Trafford last Sunday confirmed that United will finish in the Premier League top five. However, Carrick says he still does not know if he will take over as permanent manager.

“Listen, clarity is important,” said Carrick. “I think moving forward, it’s coming a time, at the end of the season, where I think we finish strong and put ourselves in a good position, you know, and obviously the situation of my role and what it looks like moving forward.

“I think it’s just the natural time, but it’s always spoke about towards the end of the season, if not the end of the season, so nothing’s really changed, to be honest.”

United have been top of the Premier League form table since Carrick took over back in January. In that time, he has led the side to wins over all of the other top sides in the league – Arsenal, Manchester City, Liverpool and Aston Villa.

Carrick continued: “We’ve got eyes on finishing the season strongly as well. So, I understand the question, I understand the timing of it, but from my point of view, right at this stage, it’s just putting the boys in a place to finish the season strongly.

“And then, as I’ve said all along, and I’m calm about it, it’ll get sorted out when it’s going to get sorted out, some of it’s out of my hands, so we’ll see what happens.”
