Pachuca meets Real Madrid in Club World Cup

MIAMI – The FIFA Club World Cup 2025 continues as 2024 Concacaf Champions Cup winners CF Pachuca meet 2023-24 UEFA Champions League winners Real Madrid CF in Group H on Sunday at Bank of America Stadium in Charlotte, North Carolina, USA.
The match will mark the second encounter between the two sides. Real Madrid won 3-nil when the two clubs met in the 2024 FIFA Intercontinental Cup Final last December.
The Tuzos are making their sixth appearance at a Club World Cup tournament. Pachuca fell 2-1 against RB Salzburg in its opening match. Bryan González scored a stunning free kick for Pachuca’s lone goal.
Pachuca will look to its attack commanded by 2024 Concacaf Champions Best Player Award winner Salomón Rondón, who scored 16 goals across all competitions in the past season. The Tuzos also feature other important players in attack such as wingers Oussama Idrissi and John Kennedy, who was a signed as a reinforcement ahead of the tournament.
Real Madrid played to a 1-1 draw against Al Hilal in its first Group H match. Gonzalo García scored the goal for Los Blancos, becoming the fourth-youngest player to score in his first start for Real Madrid in all competitions since at least 2009-10, after Jude Bellingham (20 years, 44 days), Marco Asensio (20 years, 201 days) and Dani Ceballos (21 years, 47days).
Real Madrid is one of 12 European teams competing in the Club World Cup and qualified as one of the last three winners of the UEFA Champions League, as champions in the 2023-24 edition. This is the sixth appearance for the Spanish powerhouse at a Club World Cup, who is the club with most titles in the competition with five.
CF Pachuca vs. Real Madrid SeriesCF Pachuca will face Real Madrid for the second time. Their first meeting was in the 2024 FIFA Intercontinental Cup Final, where Real Madrid earned a 3-0 victory with goals from (37’), Rodrygo Goes (53’) and Vinicius Jr. (penalty 84’).

-In 2002, they played CA Osasuna (ESP) in the Trofeo Reino de Navarra (friendly), winning 5-4 on penalties after a 1-1 draw in regulation. Goals: Andrés Chitiva (17’) for Pachuca and Mohamed El Yaagoubi (83’) for Osasuna. -In 2017, Pachuca lost 4-3 in a friendly against Celta de Vigo in Balaídos. Mexican scorers: Nemanja Radoja (own goal 30’), Víctor Guzmán (44’) and Franco Jara (67’). Celta’s goals came from Dennis Eckert (66’, 76’), Daniel Wass (79’) and Brais Méndez (81’).-That same year, they drew 0-0 against PSV Eindhoven (NED) in a friendly at Philips Stadion.-In 2023, Pachuca drew 1-1 against Real Oviedo in a friendly at Estadio Hidalgo (MEX), with goals from Roberto de la Rosa (24’) for the home side and Francisco Mascarenhas (83’) for the visitors.
