At Ueno Defensores del Chaco Stadium in Asunción, the captain of the Paraguayan national team and of Palmeiras, Gustavo Gómez, thanked the fans for their support and made a promise on behalf of the entire squad before the trip to the World Cup. In front of a packed stadium, the defender was called to the microphone to applause and chants from the supporters.

Before the speech, the announcer asked the crowd for silence so everyone could hear the captain.

Then, Gustavo Gómez spoke:

Well, I wanted to thank all the Paraguayan people on behalf of all my teammates. The truth is, we felt the support throughout all the qualifiers, but especially in these last few days. And we are preparing in the best possible way. We have a very big goal. I believe the whole country has a very big goal, which is to play in the World Cup. And the truth is, every day we are preparing in the best possible way. Obviously, in football it’s a little difficult to promise results, but we can promise that in every practice, in every training session, and in every match, we will give our lives for these colors. So, from the bottom of my heart, thank you very much on behalf of all my teammates, because we spent incredible days in our country, in our land. So thank you very much, and let’s go Paraguay, f*ck yeah! Let’s go!
