Palmeiras thrashed Capivariano 4-0 to reach the Campeonato Paulista semi-finals. It was only their fourth match in 12 this season with Abel Ferreira fielding his preferred XI, namely Carlos Miguel, Khellven, Gustavo Gómez, Murilo and Piquerez, plus Marlon Freitas, Andreas Pereira, Mauricio, Allan, Flaco López and Vitor Roque.
According to Nosso Palestra, that line-up has typically appeared when Palmeiras have had three days between fixtures, something Abel often highlights in press conferences.
With that group, the side have a 100% return, beating Vitória, Corinthians, Internacional and now Capivariano. They have scored 13 and conceded only two.
That schedule holds through to Wednesday 25 February against Fluminense in the Brasileirão, and it remains to be seen whether the coach sticks with the same side or hands Jhon Arias a first start against his former club.
After that fixture, attention returns to the state semi-final and a possible two-legged final, which would fall within a week.
Ferreira has options to rotate but appears to have settled on an ideal XI with Arias added, and the squad came through the Paulista win available for the next match, a boost for his staff.
