The UEFA Champions League final between PSG and Arsenal takes place in Budapest on Saturday in the late afternoon. In Paris, thousands have converged on the Parc des Princes for the screening and the mood is already feverish.
According to L'Équipe, by 14:00 the Porte de Saint-Cloud square beside the stadium resembled an open-air end. Fans massed around the fountain, some cooling their feet in the water under a scorching sun.
Supporters cycled through the club’s main songs, favouring a now familiar after so many years refrain, and set off flare after flare. Their messages called for a second European crown and backed Dembélé for the Ballon d’Or.
The crowd skewed very young and included supporters from Paris, its suburbs and much further afield, among them four Brazilians in yellow shirts. Many were drawn by the prospect of a repeat of last year’s huge celebration.
With four hours to kick-off, some were already sharing jokes with the heavy riot police presence around the ground.
