The Paris FC project is an ambitious one. Backed by the wealthy Arnault family, Red Bull are also investors in the project; their share in the club will increase this summer.

Following last season’s promotion from Ligue 2, Paris FC invested in order to stave off an immediate return to the second tier and they did so, thanks to a late-season push, instigated by the arrival of Antoine Kombouaré in the dugout.

Having finished mid-table, the ambition is to push on towards the European places. Antoine Arnault, the majority shareholder of the club, detailed the evolution of the project and admitted that “there probably won’t be big European fixtures at the Jean Bouin in one-and-a-half years.” He added, “We want to get there progressively.”

Despite a lot of optimism around the club – more externally than anything else – this past season in Ligue has shown the progress that still needs to be made. However, in the event that they do reach the promised land, Paris FC want Jurgen Klopp to renege on his stance, which opposes him to a return to management.

Klopp is now Head of Global Soccer at Red Bull and has been at the Jean Bouin on several occasions this season. He has repeated his reticence to return to management, but Arnault would try to get him to reconsider.

“Who doesn’t dream of having Jurgen and his radiance and his football genius. One day, we would dream of having him. It wouldn’t be in the short term because he doesn’t want to make a swift return to the touchline,” Arnault told RMC Sport show After Foot.

He added, “Maybe in three, four, five years. If we get to the Champions League, I would like to convince Klopp to manage our team.”
