Manuel Akanji joined the Nerazzurri on loan from Manchester City on deadline day.

Despite falling out of favor at the Etihad Stadium, he has thrived at San Siro.

Indeed, Cristian Chivu has heavily relied on the 30-year-old this season, making him the centerpiece of his project.

Therefore, Beppe Marotta has reportedly decided to trigger a buyout clause in Inter’s loan agreement with Man City.

Meanwhile, Pep Guardiola recently confirmed that the Cityzens won’t recall Akanji amid a growing injury crisis.

As such, the former Borussia Dortmund defender will stay in Serie A at least until the end of the season.

However, there’s a feeling that he will sign a permanent contract at Giuseppe Meazza in June.

“Tonight it was important to play a good game; now we hope to perform well against Napoli too,” Akanji said.

“Me as a center-back in a back three? I don’t care much about the position, although I like it a lot because I can carry the ball, see a lot of the field, and get involved if I want.

“I’ve never had problems adapting to a different style of football in my career.

“And I immediately felt comfortable, and my teammates and the staff helped and welcomed me very well.

“The Premier League is very physical, with a lot of back-and-forth, whereas in Italy there’s less space than in England, and that’s the main difference.”

Finally, he delivered an update on his future.

“I’d really like to know. I’m very happy here, everything is going well. We’ll see what happens at the end of the season; maybe I’ll stay.”
