Pascal Struijk’s sale shapes Leeds United’s stance, with talks ongoing for Shea Charles and interest in £34m Tarik Muharemovic. According to Leeds Live, United remain at the table for Charles, appear to be frontrunners, and will hold firm on price caps.
With a year left, Struijk was likely to renew or be sold, and remarks pointed to an exit despite Daniel Farke’s wish to keep him.
Leeds offered improved terms at season’s end, but the 26-year-old signalled he wanted a new challenge. A pre-deadline sale was needed for PSR compliance, so his Brighton move was approved at £18m rising to £20m, representing a profit on his 2018 arrival.
Funds from an FA Cup semi-final run and a 14th-place finish eased pressure before 30 June, while limited sales last summer and new rules, including the Squad Cost Ratio, have tightened scope.
Centre-back is now a priority and a goalkeeper is a core focus, with Karl Darlow set to move to Manchester. Harry Wilson’s free arrival covers one position.
Leeds are interested in Muharemovic, though there have been no formal advances and Sassuolo want about £34m, a figure United would look to reduce.
The budget is thought similar to last summer’s £100m, so they must choose where to spend big and will walk away from talks.
Last summer’s bargains, including two frees worth 22 goals plus James Justin at £8m and Gabriel Gudmundsson at £10m, still left PSR tight. This window will be no easier as rising stock pushes up prices.
