Rasmus Hojlund has not found the back of the net in the Premier League since the beginning of December.

Such substandard form wouldn’t stand at any other club anyway, but especially not for a player who cost an extortionate £64 million when moving from Atalanta in 2023.

His blank display away to Everton on Saturday extended his streak to 16 matches without a goal, which has left Manchester United chiefs pulling their hair out behind the scenes over how they can make the forward perform to the level required.

According to Manchester Evening News, coaches are ‘losing patience’ with Hojlund due to his unacceptably long goal drought.

Hojlund’s continued inadequate showings are stressing club staff

Samuel Luckhurst’s report adds that one member of the coaching staff issued a ‘particularly scathing’ review of the Dane’s display in the defeat to Tottenham Hotspur on February 16 – and it’s no wonder why.

Hojlund, as per Sofascore, took 23 touches throughout his 90 minutes on the pitch. He recorded a 64 per cent passing accuracy and two shots on target while winning only one of his six aerial duels attempted and none of his ground duels attempted.

The No.9 lost possession nine times and was offside twice, making for a dismal showing all around in North London.

Of course, the issue for Ruben Amorim is that he either sticks with Hojlund and hopes he finds his feet sooner rather than later or utilises Joshua Zirkzee, whose last league goals were in the reverse fixture against Everton on December 1 – although he does offer considerably more in attack and build-up play than his counterpart.
