CAF president Patrice Motsepe declined to discuss the appeals ruling over the AFCON 2025 final, adding that whatever TAS decides will be respected.
The first CAF Executive Committee meeting since the 17 March decision convened in Cairo on Sunday morning. According to L'Équipe, the appeals body awarded Morocco a 3-0 win and declared Senegal forfeit after incidents on 18 January in Rabat, although Senegal had won 1-0 after extra time on the pitch. The Senegalese federation appealed to TAS last Thursday.
The session was followed by a news conference marked by the resignation of secretary general Véron Monsengo-Omba. Scheduled for 12.30, it began 59 minutes late and ran for nearly one and a half hours.
A lengthy CAF statement announced measures to prevent a repeat of the final’s incidents. It signalled plans to reform statutes and regulations to bolster trust in African referees, VAR operators and the organisation’s judicial bodies, notably the disciplinary jury and appeals commission. It also pointed to professionalising refereeing and improving remuneration, without further detail.
Motsepe said he would travel to Senegal soon, reiterated he would not comment before TAS rules, and stressed his duty to safeguard the independence, integrity and credibility of CAF’s judicial organs.
