Vieira has been left concerned about his former club’s title hopes
Man City are hot on Arsenal’s heels at the top of the table thanks to a 2-1 win at the Etihad Stadium on Sunday. Just three points separates the two sides and crucially, City have played a game fewer.
Erling Haaland and Rayan Cherki were on target for Pep Guardiola’s side and they can go top of the Premier League table with victory over Burnley on Wednesday night, a fixture that has been brought forward due to City’s FA Cup semi-final commitments.
If City to beat Burnley it will be their third league win in a row and fifth in all competitions since crashing out of the Champions League at the hands of Real Madrid.
There is a scenario where the title is decided by goal difference, should Arsenal and Man City win their remaining games, and Vieira is of the opinion that his former club are now the chasers - despite being top.
“Yes of course you will start to think about it, there are only five games remaining,” the Frenchman said on Sky Sports when asked if the Gunners will be taking notice of goal difference.
“Just to disagree a little bit with Gary [Neville], I don’t believe that a manager like Pep in December will say ‘OK, if we qualify for the Champions League, I will be happy with it’. I don’t think he is that type of manager.
“I think he will challenge and he is where he was hoping the team would be. I think he brought in some quality players in December and players are growing up, building up this belief and confidence.
“In the back of his head, he is where he wanted to be and they will be there at the end of the season.
“Winning the game today gives them that belief and momentum.
“I think now it will be Arsenal that has to chase them because I don’t see them dropping points.”
