According to a report by Matteo Moretto and Fabrizio Romano, Patrick Vieira is set to become the next manager of Genoa CFC. The Frenchman has been out of work since the summer when he was released by RC Strasbourg Alsace and replaced by Liam Rosenior.

Vieira had been linked with a return to management when Julien Stéphan’s time at Stade Rennais came to an end at the start of November. However, Les Rouge et Noir decided to replace Stéphan with former Olympique de Marseille head coach Jorge Sampaoli.

A move to Italy looks to now be in the works as Vieira will likely be parachuted into a precarious situation. The northern side sit only a point above the drop after a poor start to the campaign has seen the club win twice, draw four times, and lose their remaining six games.

It remains to be seen whether the former Crystal Palace and OGC Nice manager’s move will be completed in time for Genoa’s next fixture, which will be against Cagliari – an important game near the bottom of the table, with the two teams level on points.
