Paul-Jose M’Poku does not think the Saudi Pro League would collapse if Cristiano Ronaldo departed, though he accepts the Portuguese forward’s movements always carry weight.
“But I don't think it's a case of Ronaldo will leave and things will collapse. But every time Ronaldo goes somewhere or goes out, there's always an impact,” he told Goal.com.
Ronaldo left Manchester United in November 2022 and joined Al-Nassr in Riyadh on a record deal. Major honours have proved elusive so far, aside from the Arab Club Champions Cup, with the hunt continuing in 2026.
Now 41, he is contracted for at least another season. He took strike action in February, returned, and is still chasing 1,000 career goals. He has questioned how funds are distributed across PIF-controlled teams, and Al-Nassr now lead by eight points.
“They haven't established themselves. They are establishing themselves and now also they are going into another strategy when they are buying young players. They are more looking to the long-term in terms of the short-term.”
“They are quite smart and they try to surround themselves with the highest and the top people who have worked in the club game to try and professionalise the league and the football. But they have a lot of work to do.”
