A long and challenging chapter in Paul Pogba's career is finally closing. After a two-year absence from competitive football due to a suspension, the French midfielder is now on the cusp of a dramatic return to the pitch.
The moment fans have been waiting for appears to be imminent. AS Monaco has named its squad for their upcoming Ligue 1 fixture away to Rennes this Saturday, and listed among the travelling players is none other than Paul Pogba. This marks his first official call-up since his last appearance on September 2, 2023.
Pogba's enforced hiatus stemmed from a failed doping test that initially carried a severe four-year ban. However, in a significant turn of events this past October, a court reduced the suspension to 18 months, paving the way for his return.
Having joined Monaco as a free agent this summer after his contract with Juventus ended, the path to his debut has been further complicated by injuries. Now, with his name on the team sheet and his suspension officially behind him, the stage is set for one of football's most notable talents to begin his long-awaited comeback.
