Vangelis Pavlidis was beaten to January’s Liga Portugal Betclic best forward award by Sporting’s Luis Suárez, according to Glorioso 1904.
Pavlidis received 7.96% of I Liga head coaches' votes, behind Estoril’s Yanis Begraoui on 29.20% and Suárez on 36.28%.
The Greek scored five in two league matches in January, a hat-trick against Estoril in round 17 and a brace at Estrela da Amadora in round 19. Even so, Suárez’s three goals were important in Sporting wins.
Their duel has been one of this season’s standout rivalries in Portugal. Both lead Liga Portugal Betclic with 19 goals.
In December Pavlidis edged Suárez in the same vote, winning with 25.23% to the Sporting striker’s 22.52%.
This season Pavlidis, valued at 35 million euros, has played 39 official matches, 21 in the league, 12 in the Champions League, three in the Taça de Portugal, two in the Taça da Liga and one in the Supertaça. Across 3,167 minutes he has 27 goals and five assists.
