Atletico Madrid striker and FC Barcelona target Julian Alvarez has made his position crystal clear, asking to be transfer-listed in this window to secure his “dream” move.
While the Argentine striker did not necessarily mention that Barcelona are his dream destination, it is widely believed that he wants to wear the Blaugrana shirt next season.
Naturally, this has sparked a lot of discussion, particularly around the way the 26-year-old came out and spoke to the media, with Roy Keane tearing into him for his attitude.
Now, Barcelona midfield star Pedri has added his voice to the Julian Alvarez conversation, making it clear that he rates the Atletico Madrid forward highly.
During an exclusive interview with Teledeporte, Pedri was asked about the possibility of Alvarez joining Barcelona and said:
“Julian as a player, I like him a lot, and I’ve always said that I want the best players at Barcelona.”

He also added a word of caution by saying: “But many things need to happen for that to take place.”
Pedri knows that this is not a simple transfer. Atletico Madrid do not want to make the operation easy, the price would be huge, and the relationship between the clubs is already tense.
Pedri then made sure to stay respectful of the process. He said:
“I don’t want to interfere in the club’s or the player’s affairs. If the deal goes through and it happens, then welcome aboard.”
That matters. With so much noise around Alvarez’s future, Barcelona need calm voices, not more pressure. Pedri’s answer supports the idea without creating unnecessary controversy.
The admiration makes a lot of sense. Alvarez would fit Barcelona’s midfielders well because of his movement, pressing and ability to combine.

A player like Pedri thrives when the forward line creates passing angles and attacks space intelligently.
Alvarez is not only a finisher. He works without the ball, links play and gives the attack rhythm. For Hansi Flick’s pressing-heavy Barça, that profile is naturally attractive.
Everyone at Barcelona can like Alvarez, but liking him is not enough. Deco and Joan Laporta still need to solve the financial aspect of the operation.
Atletico Madrid will also have to open their doors to negotiations, as triggering his release clause is unlikely to be a viable option.
Alvarez may be one of the best possible forwards for Flick’s project, but Atletico’s resistance means Barça must be patient.
Pedri’s words will only increase excitement. When one of Barça’s most important players openly says he likes a target, supporters naturally imagine the connection.
However, it is safe to say that the Spaniard chose his words carefully, and it remains to be seen whether Alvarez shares a dressing room with Pedri next season.
