Flamengo beat Cruzeiro 2-0 at the Maracanã to rise from 13th to fourth in the Brasileirão.
In the fifth minute, Pedro finished from the centre of the box to give the hosts control.
Agustín Rossi then kept Fla in front with smart stops, thwarting efforts from Fabrício Bruno and Matheus Pereira as Zeiro pressed for a leveller.
After the changes, Mengão found a second late on. Samuel Lino slid a through ball for Jorge Andrés Carrascal Guado, and Carrascal tucked in the clincher in the eighth minute of second half stoppage time.
Earlier, a potential red card against Matheus Henrique was reviewed and overturned after a VAR check (32.). Cruzeiro also lost goalkeeper Cássio to injury, with Matheus Cunha coming on after the break. Eight minutes of added time were indicated.
Fla registered seven shots on target from 15 attempts. Zeiro had more of the ball at 56.2% and produced 19 crosses, but worked Rossi only four times.
