Manchester City’s Pep Guardiola has his eyes set on one of Paris Saint-Germain’s most prominent rising midfield talents, according to new reports from France.

City rejigged their midfield department in the summer transfer window after a disappointing 2024-25 campaign as Tijjani Reijnders and Rayan Cherki were brought in to fill the void left by the exits of Kevin De Bruyne, James McAtee and Ilkay Gundogan.

Erling Haaland shouldered the majority of Manchester City’s goalscoring burden last term following the £82 million sale of Julian Alvarez to Atletico Madrid last summer as goals from midfield dried up, with De Bruyne and Phil Foden enduring difficult 2024-25 seasons.

De Bruyne’s final season in Manchester was hindered by recurring injuries and Foden has admitted to physical and mental issues derailing him from kicking on from spearheading his boyhood club to a fourth successive Premier League title in 2024.

City have recovered from their early season slump in form with encouraging performances against Manchester United, Napoli, Arsenal and Huddersfield Town in the 10 days following the international break – as Pep Guardiola’s men navigate a period of change at the club after a revamp of the dressing room in the summer.

Club chairman Khaldoon Al Mubarak has admitted that City have had to make up for a dormant 2024 summer transfer window in the recent market, with Hugo Viana loosening the purse strings and orchestrating a significant rehash of the first-team squad after City’s third-place finish in the recent Premier League campaign.

According to the information of Jeunes Footeux, PSG’s Warren Zaïre-Emery had been looked at as a potential signing in the summer transfer window before Manchester City secured the deadline day arrival of Gianluigi Donnarumma from the Parc des Princes.

The 19-year-old is claimed to be a ‘dream target’ for Guardiola but PSG president Nasser Al-Khelaïfi reportedly reacted immediately to interest from the Premier League giants by setting a price north of €100 million.

This is all according to former France international and now-pundit Jérôme Rothen discussing the teenager’s situation at PSG with RMC Sport. “The situation is terrible for Warren Zaïre-Emery,” Rothen said, as translated and relayed by Sport Witness.

“Since Luis Enrique’s arrival, he has regressed. But every time he plays, he has average performances. He may not be compatible with Luis Enrique’s style of play.

“For his own good, it would perhaps be better for him to look elsewhere and have another experience with another coach.”

From the perspective of Jeunes Footeux, it is stressed that it is simply too early to come to the conclusion that Zaïre-Emery will move to Manchester City or any other club for that matter.
