Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola has ruled out two of his first-team players from the club’s visit to Wolves on Sunday afternoon.

The reigning champions return to English top-flight action following the second international break of the season, and the penultimate pause for national team duties of the ongoing calendar year.

Thankfully for Manchester City, it appears as though all players have returned to the City Football Academy without any major injury concerns, and as such the club continue to focus their attentions on those requiring further treatment from past injuries.

With both Oscar Bobb and Rodri ruled out for an extended period of time, much of the conversation has centred around Nathan Ake and Kevin De Bruyne, after Pep Guardiola revealed that both players could return to on-field training after the break.

Now speaking to the media on Friday afternoon ahead of the weekend’s action, Pep Guardiola told reporters that both Ake and De Bruyne would be unlikely to feature for the club against Wolverhampton Wanderers on Sunday.

“I don’t think so,” Guardiola responded when asked whether both players would be available for the contest this weekend. “No (setbacks), but not ready.”

He continued, “They are training, they are in the last part (of recovery). Yesterday, Nathan had his first training with the team, so maybe he can travel (to Wolves). But I think to start, he’s not ready.”

On whether he has any further concerns to note ahead of the weekend action, Pep Guardiola revealed, “Some of them, Brazilians (Savinho and Ederson), Manu (Akanji), yesterday was their day off, so today and tomorrow we’ll know exactly.”

Manchester City remain unbeaten during the opening months of the ongoing season, and now face a Wolves side that find themselves rock bottom of the Premier League table and without a win from their opening seven outings.

However, Pep Guardiola has insisted that they have taken less points than they possibly deserve given their performances in the opening months of the ongoing campaign, whilst Wolves’ hierarchy remain supportive of head coach, Gary O’Neil.
