It is becoming obvious that Manchester City are looking to accelerate their rebuild in the January transfer window. The players they have been linked with can help now, but they could also be strong contributors in the future. This is especially the case with young centre-backs Abdukodir Khusanov and Vitor Reis. Although moves for the pair are yet to be completed. But what’s becoming obvious is that Pep Guardiola’s squad for next season will look very different to the one he has at his disposal now.
But to cater for the arrival of younger players, whether they arrive in January or next summer, a host of Manchester City’s heroes could potentially depart the club. That will be sad to see but that’s the nature of the game. As one door closes, another will open and that scenario is what will face Pep Guardiola’s squad before the beginning of the 25/26 season.
There are questions surrounding the future of several Manchester City players. Kyle Walker, John Stones, Ederson, Kevin De Bruyne and Ilkay Gundogan, for example, are nearer to the end of their careers than the beginning. What the future holds for them and possibly Jack Grealish is a situation to monitor.
In the case of Stones, Walker and Ederson, Billy Meyers has reported for TBR Football that all three could depart the Etihad next summer. Meyers adds that Walker and Ederson are attracting interest from the Saudi Pro League. In the case of Stones, Meyers reports that City have concerns over his fitness. Furthermore, Meyers adds that Stones has 18 months left on his current contract. As of now, City have no plans to extend Stones’ contract, Meyers adds.
It will be sad to see several of City’s warriors depart the club. In the case of the players mentioned above they have all been key pillars to Pep Guardiola’s side’s era of dominance. But to begin a new one and rebuild Pep Guardiola’s squad a host of City heroes will depart. That is more likely to occur next summer. So the Manchester City squad will likely look very different at the beginning of next season. City’s reported moves in the January transfer window show that is a reality that City’s hierarchy have accepted.
