Pepelu returns to Nervión on Saturday with mixed feelings, his Valencia tally stuck at 102 after more than a month without action.
According to AS, the midfielder has gone four consecutive matches without a minute, his last outing the derby with Levante, a game of particular significance for him. He will nonetheless travel to Sevilla with the squad and, as one of Valencia’s captains, revisit a ground that has brought him joy.
It was at the Sánchez-Pizjuán where he played his first competitive game for Valencia. He debuted in August 2023, days after a high-profile switch across the city from Levante.
That debut ended in a 1-2 win in Nervión on the opening weekend of the 2023-24 La Liga season, a marker of a bright start at Mestalla.
Now his situation is different. Corberán still regards him as important, though his contribution is currently from the background.
With Guido’s arrival and Javi Guerra restored to the double pivot, Pepelu is waiting for his moment. It might come at the Pizjuán, the stadium where he enjoyed his first win as a Valencia player.
