Merseyside referee Peter Bankes will take charge of Leeds United’s Friday night Premier League clash with Nottingham Forest at Elland Road, a familiar appointment for the Whites.

According to yorkshireeveningpost.co.uk, Bankes first oversaw Leeds in November 2015, a 1-0 Championship defeat at Queens Park Rangers in which Charlie Austin scored, and Friday will be his 26th Leeds assignment.

He has already handled two Leeds top-flight matches this season, August’s goalless home draw with Newcastle United that brought just two bookings, and November’s 3-2 loss at Manchester City.

Across the campaign he has refereed 16 Premier League fixtures and shown two red cards, both to Chelsea players, dismissing Robert Sanchez in September’s 2-1 defeat at Manchester United and Marc Cucurella in last month’s 2-1 loss at Fulham.

Of the 25 Leeds games he has officiated, 13 have ended in victory for the Whites, four in draws and nine in defeats.

Those 25 fixtures brought 51 yellow cards and a single Leeds dismissal, Kalvin Phillips for a late high challenge in another 1-0 defeat at QPR in January 2020. Eddie Smart and Blake Antrobus are assistants, Andrew Kitchen is fourth official, with Craig Pawson on VAR alongside assistant Tim Wood.
