Peugeot has reunited with FC Sochaux-Montbéliard 11 years after selling the club, agreeing a five-season partnership unveiled at its plant beside Stade Bonal on Wednesday.

According to L'Équipe, the agreement followed months of discreet talks and brings Peugeot in as a main sponsor alongside EIMI, one of the first local shareholders to back the August 2023 rescue. The ceremony was timed for the 11 am workers’ break to maximise participation.

Peugeot’s global CEO Alain Favey, France lead Lionel Ehrhard, FCSM supervisory board chair Sandro Nardis and club president Clément Calvez presented an iconic yellow jersey. Sochaux will wear it at home to Concarneau on Friday in National matchday 25.

In summer 2015, then PSA boss Carlos Tavares sold the club to Chinese firm Ledus after 87 years together. Eight years on, Sochaux were near collapse with a €22m shortfall, before Stellantis changed course after Tavares left in December 2024.

Favey, a PSA alumnus from 1991 to 2009, became Peugeot’s global CEO in February 2025 and had previously helped broker an Arsenal and Citroën deal in the UK. He met Nardis and Calvez on 24 September at the Musée Peugeot, with communications chief Phil York later negotiating details.

Strong form, with Sochaux third and one point off leaders Dijon, helped finalise a deal that will be revised financially if they reach Ligue 2, or better, by 2031. Favey said Peugeot have no football ambition beyond Sochaux and see the tie as honouring heritage and sparking new momentum.
