Manchester City now have six players to have recorded over 100 goal involvements in the Premier League, with Phil Foden the latest to join the exclusive group.

Foden’s ascent into the pantheon of City greats continues to impress, with the 25-year-old having been at the heart of everything positive for Pep Guardiola’s side during many of the Catalan’s most successful seasons at the Etihad Stadium.

Now, despite a largely disappointing season, Foden provided the creative spark necessary to keep pace with a relentless Arsenal, inspiring his side to a 3-0 victory over Crystal Palace on Wednesday, through a dual-assist masterclass – a timely reminder of his quality.

The milestone is perhaps particularly significant given the pending departures of veteran leaders in Bernardo Silva and John Stones this summer, with Foden expected to shoulder some of the responsibility being left behind by the long-standing duo.

Now, following his brace of assists in Manchester City’s 3-0 win over Crystal Palace on Wednesday night, Phil Foden has joined an exclusive club of players at the Etihad Stadium to be directly involved (goals or assists) in 100 Premier League goals.

Foden’s sensational back-heel assist for Antoine Semenyo’s opening goal took his tally to 68 Premier League goals and 32 assists, before making it 33 assists just moments later when he turned provider for Omar Marmoush.

Foden has become the sixth Manchester City player to reach the century for Premier League goal involvements, joining the following former teammates:

  • Sergio Aguero: 184 goals, 47 assists
  • Kevin De Bruyne: 72 goals, 119 assists
  • David Silva: 60 goals, 93 assists
  • Raheem Sterling: 91 goals, 42 assists
  • Erling Haaland: 111 goals, 24 assists
  • Phil Foden: 68 goals, 33 assists

Foden could spark Manchester City double, or treble

Looking ahead, Phil Foden’s focus will shift immediately to the FA Cup Final against Chelsea on Saturday, 16 May, with the England international looking to add more silverware to his cabinet before City’s final Premier League fixtures against Bournemouth and Aston Villa.

His link-up play with Omar Marmoush and Antoine Semenyo was particularly impressive against the Eagles, with Pep Guardiola insisting that given the tight turnaround between the remaining contests, all of City’s players would need to step up and be called upon.

Should Manchester City win their remaining games and Arsenal stumble against either Burnley at home or Crystal Palace away on the final day, Phil Foden could end the month as a seven-time Premier League winner at just 25 years of age.
