Piccinato updates on Corinthians duo, praises Brabas’ No 10

With three goals from midfielder Gabi Zanotti and one from forward Jhonson, Corinthians advanced to the semifinals of the Conmebol Women's Libertadores by defeating Boca Juniors of Argentina with a score of 4-0. The match took place at Estádio Francisco Urbano, located in Morón, a province of Buenos Aires.

Moments after the final whistle, coach Lucas Piccinato was questioned in the mixed zone about the two players who are currently unable to play due to medical reasons: midfielder Vic Albuquerque and forward Jaqueline.

The coach provided an update on both players' medical status. The first, who did not suffer a serious injury, twisted her knee in the victory over Santa Fé of Colombia in the last round of the group stage. The forward, on the other hand, has not yet played in the competition as she is recovering from a foot injury.

“Jaque had her first training session with the ball yesterday (Friday) and today (Saturday) she would be available to play for a few minutes if necessary, if the game called for it. Vic has also recovered well. On the first day she was in a lot of pain, but today, if the game required, she could probably come on.”

“But it's great that we managed to settle the game quickly, so we can rest them and allow for even better recovery. They are not 100%, so every day, every extra training session they can do will definitely make a difference so they can be ready at the right moment and play at their best,” he said.

Next, the Brabas' coach commented on the starring role of midfielder Gabi Zanotti, the team's top scorer this season with 18 goals in 33 matches. Second in this regard is Vic Albuquerque, who has scored 14 in 37 games. Corinthians' number 10 is experiencing her most prolific scoring season at Parque São Jorge since joining the club in 2018.

In total, she has scored 83 goals in 242 games (194 as a starter) – 193 wins, 32 draws, and 17 losses – just over 84% success rate. Impressive numbers at 40 years of age. She has also won 17 titles with the Corinthians shirt, including Paulista Championships, Libertadores, Brasileiros, Copa Paulista, and the Women's Supercup.

“Zanotti has an incredible work ethic. She is an athlete who arrives early at the training center, leaves late, she prepares herself at all times, she is meticulous about everything, both in her own preparation and in the preparation of those around her. She pushes everyone around her to improve, so that we can deliver better work for her.”

“Honestly, I think she is one of the greatest players in club history, if not the greatest. She has won absolutely everything and still has the desire to win more. It's a huge credit to her daily routine, her work, what she brings to her job, and she truly deserves to be experiencing another Libertadores with this level of prominence,” he concluded.

The Brabas will return to the field this Wednesday, October 15, at 8:00 pm (Brasília time), to face Ferroviária in a national classic for the semifinals of the Conmebol Women's Libertadores.
