Manchester United’s home kit for the 2026/27 season has been leaked online – and it is a throwback to one of the club’s most distinctive jerseys from the past.
Adidas has a long and storied history as the kit sponsor for the Red Devils, having first established a relationship in 1980 that lasted until 1992.
The German sportswear giant then returned in 2015 to partner with Manchester United once again, striking a £750 million deal over the next decade – a record commercial fee at the time. The agreement was then extended in 2023 for a mammoth £900 million for another ten years, meaning it will run until 2033.
The quality of the kits that the United squad have played in since Adidas replaced Nike has risen significantly, even if the football the team has produced has not always matched the aesthetic on their backs.
This season’s home kit has a “retro-feeling design” with a special focus on the sleeves, after Adidas’ senior design director, Jurgen Rank, revealed they “wanted to do something a little different, using the sleeves as a canvas.”
The sleeves are created with a “unique retro-feeling design in different shades of United red, a nod towards the angular design of Old Trafford, which always brings that special feeling in your stomach as you walk up towards the Theatre of Dreams on matchday,” the club website explained.
“The main section of the shirt on the front has a dot pattern, with the black piping separating that from the sleeves, and smaller dots feature on the iconic black adidas three stripes.”
However, fans will not have to wait any longer to see next season’s iteration after the home kit was leaked online, with a homage to the club’s past.
Footy Headlines, the best source for leaked kits, reveals the 2026/27 edition is “inspired by the club’s classic Admiral kits from the 1970s.” It features the “traditional red as the main colour, complemented by white and black detailing” as is standard for any United home kit.
However, a “striped collar and sleeve cuffs” offer a distinct change to this season’s, with the combination “reminiscent of the Admiral design from 1975 to 1980.”
The Peoples Person believes this new offering from Adidas is even better than the current version – with the hope that the team’s performances will be even stronger next season while wearing it. Bruno Fernandes, in particular, is going to look like an absolute baller in it.
