Piñar leads LD Alajuelense to second away victory

SAN SALVADOR, El Salvador – The 2025 Concacaf Central American Cup continued with Liga Deportiva Alajuelense earning a 1-nil victory over Alianza FC in Group A on Thursday at Estadio Nacional Jorge "El Mágico" González in San Salvador, El Salvador.
Fernando Piñar ended the stalemate in the 45’+1’ with a right-footed shot off a rebound following an attempt that was initially blocked by Alianza goalkeeper Mario González.
Emerson Mauricio nearly completed a spectacular individual play but was denied an attempt to equalize by Isaac Badilla, who came on as a substitute for Piñar.
Washington Ortega ended the match with five saves and the clean sheet of the campaign for LD Alajuelense.
The victory improves LD Alajuelense to six points and second place heading into the final matchweek. The reigning back-to-back champions will seek to keep its title defense alive when it hosts Antigua GFC next Wednesday.
Alianza FC will visit group leaders Plaza Amador to conclude its Group Stage participation next Wednesday, needing a victory and other results for its Quarterfinal hopes.
