San Lorenzo have appointed Pitu Barrientos as president of professional football, an unpaid role created after the departure of manager Carlos La Roca Sánchez.
According to SuperDepor.com, Sergio Costantino and secretary Martín Saiz formally presented the former midfielder to the players and Damián Ayude’s coaching staff.
The appointment was driven by the club’s interim board, led by Costantino, which will steer the institution until after elections on 30 May.
Barrientos, from Chubut and a former San Lorenzo player, won the Copa Libertadores in 2014 and the Supercopa Argentina in 2016. He left the presidency of Jorge Newbery de Comodoro Rivadavia to take up this position.
His brief is strategic and supportive rather than executive. He will accompany the squad and coaching staff day to day, assist with sporting logistics, act as a direct link between the board and the team, and help organise the professional football structure.
