Boca edged River by a single goal at the Monumental despite a cut-up pitch after an AC/DC concert. Leandro Paredes settled the Superclásico from the spot and starred.
According to LaNumer12.com.ar, Boca were dominant before the break under captain Paredes, then defended with authority after half-time, while still threatening a second.
Lautaro Di Lollo was outstanding, rated nine, the rock of a defence that also featured sevens for Ayrton Costa and Lautaro Blanco. Leandro Brey, on his first Superclásico, was secure with a knee save from Martínez Quarta. Marcelo Weigandt struggled against Huevo Acuña, rated four.
Milton Delgado impressed, rated eight, breaking up play and going close from range. Paredes, rated nine, converted the penalty, hit a 50 metre pass for Miguel Merentiel and twice found him with outside-of-the-foot balls, one leading to the spot-kick. Santiago Ascacíbar earned seven, Tomás Aranda five.
Merentiel lifted his level to six but lacked precision, missing three chances. Adam Bareiro, rated five, fought constantly and was booked on 12 minutes. From the bench, Exequiel Zeballos was lively yet wasteful for six, Ander Herrera showed class with an early long ball, and Milton Giménez and Tomás Belmonte were not rated, though Giménez drew a Martínez Quarta booking.
Coach Claudio Úbeda, rated seven, executed a clear plan, ceding the ball early, compressing the lines and freeing Paredes, then using changes to target River’s flaws. He has coached two Superclásicos and won both. Boca’s heavy schedule did not weigh on them.
