At the New Balance Arena in Bergamo, Lazio advanced to the Coppa Italia final after beating Atalanta on penalties.

With Alessio Romagnoli and Mario Pasalic scoring late in normal time, the contest ended 1-1 on the night and 3-3 on aggregate. In the penalty shootouts, the Biancocelesti wasted their first two before scoring the third and the fourth. On the other hand, Edoardo Motta was only beaten by Giacomo Raspadori before shutting down the next four attempts in an astonishing showing.

Here are our player ratings for Lazio, who edged past Atalanta following a dramatic second leg in the Coppa Italia semi-final.

Lazio XI (4-3-3)

Edoardo Motta – 9

The goalkeeper had some nervy moments and was guilty of a few clumsy clearances, and yet, he emerged as the ultimate hero of the night. His finger-tip save on Gianluca Scamacca’s header in added time kept Lazio alive, and he then went on to incredibly save four out of Atalanta’s five spot-kicks.

Adam Marusic – 6

A decent performance from the Montenegrin, who made an immediate return to the starting lineup. As usual, he offered little in attack, but held his own against Nicola Zalewski at the back.

Mario Gila – 7.5

The Spaniard is too tenacious for his own good. Produced a host of last-ditch interceptions and blocks to deny the likes of Nikola Krstovic and Zalewski, before succumbing to injury in the middle of the second half.

Alessio Romagnoli – 8

A superb showing at the back from the Italian defender, who produced a flurry of clearances throughout the 120 minutes. Broke the deadlock with a clinical finish that any striker would have been proud of.

Nuno Tavares – 6.5

The Portuguese international didn’t offer much going forward, but was incredibly disciplined at the back, making zero mistakes. However, his penalty-kick was denied by Marco Carnesecchi.

Toma Basic – 6

A solid if unspectacular display from the Croatian midfielder, who has yet to regain his optimal physical condition.

Patric – 5.5

The Lazio stalwart ran more than anyone else in the first 90 minutes, but lost the ball in a dangerous place, and was a bit poor in his distribution.

Kenneth Taylor – 7

The Dutchman was the Aquile’s most proactive midfielder, as he insisted on advancing the play. Did well to beat Carnesecchi in the shout-outs.

Matteo Cancellieri – 6

Like the rest of his attacking teammates, the winger saw little of the ball, but was extremely generous in the defensive phase, tracking back to support Marusic on every occasion.

Tijjani Noslin – 6

The Dutchman was initially bullied by Berat Djimsiti, who chased him all over the pitch, but he managed to grow with the match. Could have done better on a couple of occasions in front of goal, but he can be forgiven thanks to the great effort he put up.

Mattia Zaccagni – 6.5

The Lazio captain gave his all and some more in the 100+ minutes he spent on the pitch. While it wasn’t his most spectacular outing, he produced the assist to Romagnoli’s opener with an exquisite corner kick.

Substitutes

Gustav Isaksen – 6

The Dane squandered a couple of promising counter-attacks in extra time, but he got Lazio on the board in the penalty shootout after two agonizing misses.

Manuel Lazzari – 6.5

The Italian’s daring run resulted in the corner kick that yielded Romagnoli’s goal.

Fisayo Dele-Bashiru – 6

The Nigerian held his own in midfield and helped Lazio launch a few promising attacks, but still lacks a bit of grit.

Oliver Provstgaard – 6.5

The young Dane did generally well against Krstovic and Scamacca.

Danilo Cataldi – 6

The Lazio youth product was an upgrade on Patic in the Regista role, picking up his teammates with a few vertical passes. He was unfortunate to hit the post in the shout-outs.

Pedro – 6.5

The veteran caused a few problems for the tired Atalanta defenders. Didn’t need to take the fifth spot-kick.
