The Match

It was a rapid start from Les Monégasques, who netted their first goal of the Sébastien Pocognoli era at the Stade Louis II through Mohammed Salisu, who met Kassoum Outtara’s ball into the box unchallenged. Ansu Fati went close to doubling that lead just three minutes later, but this time Guillaume Restes was quick off his line to rescue the situation and prevent a second Monaco goal within just six minutes of the kick-off.

Toulouse didn’t escape unscathed from the early barrage, but did limit the damage, before then threatening themselves, holding more possession within the opposition half and looking dangerous from set-piece situations, without really converting it into a shot on Philipp Kohn’s goal.

Les Monégasques would then have been disappointed not to double their lead. It was Outarra with the ball in once again, Folarin Balogun on the end of it and Guillaume Restes with the excellent save on the stretch. Fati went close with the rebound, but failed to hit the target.

It was Monaco who dominated in the second half. George Ilenikhena looked to chip Restes, but failed, and Pape Cabral also had a good chance off the bench, drawing an excellent Restes save before hitting the post with the rebound. However, Les Monégasques ultimately didn’t need a second, holding on to secure the first win of the Pocognoli era.

Monaco player ratings

Philipp Kohn – 5

Christian Mawissa – 7

Mohammed Salisu – 7

As he was against Tottenham, it was a largely faultless performance from the Ghanaian defender, who was also effective in the opposition box, heading home the early opener. Often error-prone, he was been reliable in recent performances.

Thilo Kehrer – 6

Kassoum Ouattara – 7

It was Ouattara who got the assist for the opener and the France youth international’s deliveries were dangerous throughout. He was not overly tested defensively, and so it was his strengths that showed on the night.

Aleksandr Golovin – 5

Mamadou Coulibaly – 4

Replaced by Jordan Teze (5).

Krépin Diatta – 6

Takumi Minamino – 5

Ansu Fati – 4

Folarin Balogun – 4

Toulouse selected player ratings

Charlie Cresswell – 5

Guillaume Restes – 7

It was Vicario who frustrated Monaco in midweek. He almost did the same, pulling off a string of high-quality saves, but not enough to secure any points for Toulouse.
