Police charge outside Mestalla before Valencia vs Barcelona

Pre-match scenes outside Mestalla were marred by police charging at supporters before Valencia faced Barcelona.

According to Superdeporte, tensions rose shortly after the Valencia team bus arrived. Officers moved to seize a flare from fans, prompting a confrontation that lasted several minutes.

After the usual security cordon away from the bus was broken, many supporters moved towards the police. Officers backed towards the stadium, then charged as crowds scattered to avoid being struck.

Families with small children were left alarmed by the mass of people running, amid concerns for their safety.

While many hurried inside the ground for shelter, a group of younger supporters confronted officers with chants and threw bottles from distance. Some struck police helmets.
