Police intercept 150 Real Sociedad ultras in Seville, seize iron bars, knives and bats

Around midnight in Seville, the National Police intercepted and held around 150 Real Sociedad ultras. They were reportedly heading to a rendezvous with Atlético de Madrid ultras.

Diario de Sevilla reports that officers moved in at Plaza de San Antonio as the group travelled along Calle San Vicente towards the Alameda de Hércules, where the meeting was supposedly set.

During the operation, officers seized iron bars, knives, helmets and bats.

The Copa del Rey final between Real Sociedad and Atlético de Madrid had been designated high risk because of rival ultra groups, who also draw support from other clubs.

Despite a largely cordial atmosphere on the eve of the match, the operation aimed to prevent a serious flashpoint.
