The Portugal national team made history at the U-17 World Cup and were crowned champions after a 1â0 win over Austria in Thursdayâs final.
A solitary goal from AnĂsio Cabral was enough to lift the trophy.
The victory crowns an impeccable campaign and confirms the potential of a new and brilliant generation of Portuguese footballers.
Portugalâs superiority was evident, especially in the first half, where high pressing and pace on the wings constantly troubled the Austrian defense.
The goal that secured the world title came in the 31st minute of the first half.
Duarte Cunha, one of the standouts of the tournament, delivered a low cross. Forward AnĂsio Cabral made no mistake.
In the third-place match, Italy beat Brazil on penalties (4â2) after a goalless draw in regular time.
U-17 World Cup Champions đ
Brazil and Nigeria remain the biggest champions of the U-17 World Cup, with four titles each. Ghana and Mexico have two titles.
France, Germany, Switzerland, England, and now Portugal have one title each.
