Portugal and the USA meet in Atlanta as both sides continue their build-up to the 2026 FIFA World Cup with an international friendly at Mercedes-Benz Stadium.
The Portuguese national team are coming off the back of a goalless draw with Mexico, a match in which they controlled 66.9% of the ball but only managed 10 shots and two on target.
The USMNT, meanwhile, are reeling from a 5-2 hammering at the hands of Belgium.
The team arrive in Atlanta with a squad missing several of its most iconic and influential figures. Most notably, Cristiano Ronaldo will not feature due to a persistent hamstring strain.
Manager Roberto Martinez is also without defensive stalwart Rúben Dias and midfield playmaker Bernardo Silva, both of whom stayed behind to manage physical discomfort.
With goalkeeper Diogo Costa also doubtful due to an adductor problem, the spotlight shifts to Bruno Fernandes, who is on the verge of climbing Portugal’s all-time scoring charts.
In the absence of the veteran core, Martínez is expected to provide extended minutes to rising stars like Vitinha and João Neves. This match serves as a critical evaluation for Portugal’s younger technical talents as they look to secure their roles in the primary rotation.
Possible starting XI: R. Silva; Cancelo, Inacio, Veiga, Mendes; Neves, Vitinha; Neto, B. Fernandes, Felix; Ramos
The match will kick off at 12 am BST on Wednesday, 1st April.
The match will be broadcast live in the UK on Premier Sports 2. In the United States it will be shown on TNT, truTV, HBO Max and Peacock. There will also be Spanish language broadcasts on Telemundo and Universo.
