According to The Star, the administrators appointed to oversee the Owls, Begbies Traynor, have already received notices from possible buyers.

The Yorkshire outfit were handed an automatic 12 point penalty by the EFL for going into administration, with financial issues plaguing the club throughout 2025.

Dejphon Chansiri has been put under immense pressure from supporters to sell his stake in the club prior to this development, with protests being held at multiple games so far this season.

It was previously reported that the likes of John Textor and Mike Ashley are among the interested parties in purchasing the Championship side.

It is understood that the current owner will have no say on the future direction of Sheffield Wednesday, or who will be the next owner.

It’s been claimed that the administrators moved to rip out the seats spelling out his name from the Hillsborough stadium, marking a line in the sand for his time in charge.

Administrator Kris Wigfield has confirmed that contact has been made by a number of interested parties, with work set to begin next week on finding a solution to get the club out of this position.

He’s also made it clear that they will be seeking as many potential buyers as they can, as they look to get the best deal possible for the Championship side’s creditors.

“We’ve already had people contact us,” said Wigfield, via The Star.

“Next week we’ll start to engage with them properly and put a proper sales process in place.

“We’ll have to be satisfied that it’s a genuine party that can actually buy the club, but once they’ve got through preliminary checks, they’ll be given information, told how to go about it and we’ll start inviting offers.

“We’ll be marketing it so that it reaches everybody.

“There might be interested parties out there that aren’t aware of the situation yet, particularly people who aren’t based in the UK.”

It’s believed that it could take four to six weeks to come to an agreement with a prospective buyer, as well as another four to six weeks to ratify that deal.

Sheffield Wednesday were bottom of the table prior to their 12-point deduction, with Henrik Pedersen’s side now plunged even further from safety against relegation.

Light at the end of the tunnel for Sheffield Wednesday

It’s a real shame that it’s come to this for Sheffield Wednesday, but there is now light at the end of the tunnel.

It is massively encouraging for supporters that so many interested parties are emerging to purchase the club, and it shows the potential the Owls possess.

Chansiri was reportedly seeking £100 million to sell his stake in the Yorkshire outfit, which was always an unrealistic figure, which would’ve put buyers off making genuine steps towards a deal.
