FC Bayern face an away game at SC Freiburg, with coach Vincent Kompany having to improvise in attack in particular – and at the same time already looking ahead to the clash with Real Madrid.

On Saturday, the Munich side travel to Breisgau and want to take the next step in the title race. However, the personnel situation means that Kompany will have to adapt his starting eleven once again. The situation is particularly tense in attack. Harry Kane is out with ankle problems and Nicolas Jackson is also unavailable following his red card suspension. The record champions are therefore without their regular strikers.

Kompany confirmed at the press conference: „Harry felt something in his ankle in England training. He won’t be available tomorrow. But I’m optimistic for Tuesday.“ The focus is therefore clearly on a timely comeback in next Tuesday’s Champions League quarter-final against Real Madrid.

Offensive solutions needed – Gnabry likely to play up front

Without Kane and Jackson, Serge Gnabry is likely to move into the center of attack. He will probably be supported by Michael Olise, Lennart Karl and Luis Díaz, who is available again after serving his suspension. Joshua Kimmich and Leon Goretzka are likely to start in midfield. Aleksandar Pavlovic is closer to the team again after overcoming problems, but could initially take a seat on the bench.

Defensively, there is much to be said for a back four of Josip Stanisic, Dayot Upamecano, Jonathan Tah and Konrad Laimer. Manuel Neuer, who is about to make his comeback after his break, is likely to start in goal. There are also positive signs for other players returning. Jamal Musiala and Alphonso Davies recently trained fully with the team again. Kompany explained: „Both are options for the next few games. Whether they can play three games in a week or the full 90 minutes is another question.“

Meanwhile, coach Julian Schuster has opted for a flexible formation at SC Freiburg: Matthias Ginter and Philipp Lienhart could form the central defense, while Vincenzo Grifo and Junior Adamu, among others, should provide a threat up front.

Likely line-ups at a glance

FC Bayern: Neuer – Stanisic, Upamecano, Tah, Laimer – Kimmich, Goretzka – Olise, Karl, Díaz – Gnabry
