Crystal Palace Eye Harvey Elliott as Eze Replacement

Liverpool could face a significant decision in the final days of the transfer window, with Harvey Elliott linked with a move to Crystal Palace. According to Football Insider, the Eagles are exploring the possibility of signing the 22-year-old midfielder as they seek a replacement for Eberechi Eze, who recently joined Arsenal in a £67.5m deal.

Former Manchester United chief scout Mick Brown explained the challenge Palace now face: “It will be very difficult for Palace to replace Eze. He was such a key figure in the squad and in the way they played, but it’s something they’ve already started working on, and there are a few players they’re looking at who could potentially come in and replace him.”

Elliott Fits Palace’s Tactical Profile

Elliott has been identified as a strong option for Oliver Glasner’s side. Brown noted: “Harvey Elliott is one who I hear they could be ready to make a move for. He would be a good player for a number of clubs, and there are a few in the Premier League who are still keeping an eye on his situation.”

The former scout added that Elliott’s versatility makes him an attractive proposition: “I think he would fit in well with the way Palace play, in that position where he’s not quite a winger and not quite a number 10, he can drift around. I’m surprised he hasn’t found a destination yet, Elliott, because there’s been no shortage of interest.”

With just a few days left before the deadline, Brown expects Palace to act: “I expected him to move somewhere like a Palace, Fulham, Nottingham Forest, and yes it might still happen, but it’s late in the window now. I think Palace, in their attempts to replace Eze, will be looking at Elliott as an option and I expect they’ll speak to Liverpool to see what it might take.”

Liverpool’s Position on Elliott’s Future

Elliott has struggled for minutes this season, featuring for only seven minutes in Liverpool’s first three Premier League games. The Athletic’s David Ornstein has said that an exit “remains plausible”, with James Pearce adding that Liverpool value the England Under-21 international at £50m.

Earlier in the summer, RB Leipzig were linked with a €30m (£25.9m) bid, but Palace’s sudden interest could reshape the picture. A move to Selhurst Park would offer Elliott consistent game time and European football, something that appears unlikely at Anfield given Arne Slot’s wealth of attacking options.

There is added intrigue due to ongoing speculation linking Liverpool with Palace defender Marc Guehi. While a straight swap appears unlikely, the possibility of two major deals involving the same clubs has not gone unnoticed.

Pivotal Decision for Liverpool

For Liverpool, this situation presents a classic dilemma: retain a talented squad player or cash in to reinvest before the deadline. Elliott remains highly regarded by the Anfield hierarchy and supporters, but regular first-team football could accelerate his development more than sporadic appearances.

Should Palace match Liverpool’s valuation, Fenway Sports Group will have to weigh financial logic against squad depth. For now, Elliott remains part of Slot’s plans, but the next few days could define his future.

Our View – Anfield Index Analysis

For Liverpool fans, this is a bittersweet story. Harvey Elliott is one of the brightest young talents to emerge in recent years, a player with vision, technical skill and a fearless attitude. Letting him go, even temporarily, feels like a step back. Yet the reality is harsh: competition for places at Anfield is fierce, and seven minutes of league football so far tells its own story.

Arne Slot has transformed Liverpool into a dynamic, title-winning machine, and every position is contested by elite players. For Elliott, breaking into the first team consistently is a daunting task when names like Dominik Szoboszlai, Alexis Mac Allister and Curtis Jones are in the mix.

A move to Palace could give Elliott exactly what he needs: minutes, responsibility and the chance to shape games. But if Liverpool part with him permanently, many will question whether this is a short-term financial gain at the expense of long-term quality.

Fans will hope for a loan rather than a sale. Elliott still has the potential to be a future star for Liverpool, and seeing him flourish elsewhere would be a difficult watch.
