However, his return to the pitch will be obsolete for Barcelona, and the focus will be more on finding a suitor for the German international, rather than actually giving him game time.

Ter Stegen, in the recent past, has been linked with moves for several Premier League clubs, with Chelsea, in particular, emerging as a potential suitor.

Chelsea open to a loan move

According to MARCA, Chelsea are indeed one of the clubs closely keeping track of ter Stegen’s situation at Barcelona.

It appears the Premier League giants are even open to a loan move for the German international in the upcoming January transfer window.

Ter Stegen, for his part, is aware of the fact that his return won’t be easy. But he wants to focus on Barcelona rather than his future, at least for now.

A key piece of the puzzle will be the German national team. It is no secret that ter Stegen wants to play for Die Mannschaft in next year’s World Cup. But in order to do so, he must play regularly.

Therefore, staying at Barcelona might not make much sense for ter Stegen, knowing he will continue to trail Joan Garcia in the pecking order.

The interest from Chelsea, to that end, becomes key, with the Blues keen on signing a more experienced ‘keeper in January, who can compete with Robert Sanchez in goal.

Although Chelsea are looking at other options as well, ter Stegen’s experience coupled with market situation makes him an ideal target for the Premier League outfit.
