Leeds should not have faced Brentford without Gabriel Gudmundsson, after a Premier League panel ruled his Selhurst Park dismissal was wrong.

According to the BBC, the Premier League’s Key Match Incidents panel unanimously found Thomas Bramall erred in showing a second yellow card.

It was the second unanimous KMI call in a fortnight, after March’s review of a denied penalty for Luke O’Nien’s challenge on Pascal Struijk in the 1-0 defeat by Sunderland.

Bramall booked Gudmundsson again for a challenge on Ismaila Sarr, then showed red. He initially appeared to forget the first booking and was reminded before dismissing him.

The panel said there was minimal contact and the tackle was careless rather than clearly reckless.

Reduced to 10 men, Leeds spent almost the entire second half defending and drew 0-0. Without Gudmundsson, they created little down the left at Brentford, another 0-0.

VAR cannot review second yellows at present, but from next season officials will be able to ask referees to revisit clearly wrong second bookings.
