Canada face Switzerland at BC Place Stadium in Vancouver in a battle for first place in Group B, with a first ever appearance at the World Cup knockout stage firmly in sight.

It is the third FIFA World Cup appearance for Canada, having previously competed in 1986 and 2022, where they were eliminated at the group stage on both occasions.

Canada thrashed previous World Cup hosts Qatar 6-0 in their second Group B match and are currently top of their group.

This year marks the first time the nation has hosted a World Cup on home soil, and after recording one win and one draw, they sit top of Group B with a three-point advantage over Switzerland.

Canada have won two of their last six matches across all competitions, while also recording four draws.

As for their opponents, Switzerland are level on points with Canada after drawing 1-1 with Qatar and beating Bosnia and Herzegovina 4-1 in their sixth consecutive appearance at the World Cup finals.

They are unbeaten in their last five final group-stage matches at the FIFA World Cup, including a dramatic 3-2 victory over Serbia in Qatar four years ago.

They will take confidence into the clash having never lost a FIFA World Cup match against a CONCACAF opponent, most recently drawing 2-2 with Costa Rica at the 2018 World Cup in Russia.

Switzerland have appeared at the FIFA World Cup on six occasions, with their best performances coming in 1934, 1938 and 1954 when they reached the quarter-finals.

The side are unbeaten in their last five matches across all competitions, recording two wins and three draws, while suffering just one defeat in their last six matches.

The match will kick off at 20:00 (BST) and will be broadcast live on ITV1 and available to steam online on ITVX.
