Liverpool have had a torrid run of form as of late and will hope to avoid yet another defeat as they host Dutch side PSV in the UEFA Champions League.

Liverpool’s disastrous 3-0 home defeat to Nottingham Forest made it just one league win in eight league matches for the current Champions as Arne Slot and his team of superstars face increasing pressure from the outside.

Despite their poor run of form in the league, Liverpool haven’t been as disastrous in the Champions League; their four games in the group stage have resulted in three wins and only one defeat, that came away to Galatasaray.

Their run of form in the Champions League has done little to change the minds of the Anfield faithful, after a summer of massive upheaval that included over £400m in transfer fees.

However, following a start that was headlined by last-minute winners and high-scoring results, Slot’s side has since almost capitulated in the League.

Despite this, their 1-0 victory over Real Madrid in their previous Champions League match gave hope to an ailing side, and they will look to continue to keep up their strong form as they host PSV.

The Dutch side has been in incredible form this season, leaders of the Eredivisie after 13 games and one defeat, PSV will be tough opponents for a side already down on their luck.

Having scored an incredible 41 goals already in the League, PSV have shown their strength in the Champions League this season also, culminating in a 6-2 drubbing of Italian Giants Napoli back in October.

Heading into the fixture, Slot has chopped and changed his starting eleven consistently, and one of their £100m+ signings, Florian Wirtz, has been in and out of the starting XI for a while now, and it’s unclear if he will start in midweek.

Liverpool also has issues at right-back with the long-term injury to Jeremie Frimpong. Due to the Dutchman’s absence, midfielder Dominik Szobozlai has been shifted to right-back and will be expected to continue there.

Salah, who hasn’t been in strong form as of late, is expected to retain his place alongside Hugo Ekitike, who will replace the underperforming Alexander Isak.

Completing the front three is Gakpo, who, alongside Ekitike, has been Liverpool’s best-performing striker.

PSV have no new injury concerns from yet another victory midweek. Guus Til will maintain his place as the Dutch side’s makeshift no.9. Til has been in great form as of late, netting five times and registering one assist in his last five games.

Til is tied with winger Ismael Saibiri on ten goal contributions in the Eredivisie and will provide a dangerous attacking threat.

Liverpool will know the game at Anfield is a must-win and will be eager to wrestle their slide of form but PSV will be far from an easy target; their incredibly effective attacking output will provide a massive test to a side already down on their luck.

Predicted Line-ups

LIV: Alisson; Szoboszlai, Konate, Van Dijk, Robertson; Jones, Gravenberch, Mac Allister; Salah, Gakpo, Ekitike

PSV: Kovar; Dest, Gasiorowski, Schouten, Salah-Eddine; Junior, Veerman; Man, Saibari, Perisic; Til
