Wolves host Liverpool aiming to shock the Reds for the second time this week at Molineux in the fifth round of the FA Cup.

Rob Edwards has got the Premier League’s bottom club pulling out miraculous results, as they defeated the reigning champions 2-1 in stoppage time just a few days ago.

Their short-term form has been nothing short of brilliant, with a 2-o victory against rivals Aston Villa and a 2-2 draw against league leaders Arsenal – all coming on home turf.

Although they remain rooted at the foot of the table with relegation to the Championship looming, Molineux has sprung to life late on in the season and have proven a challenge to beat on home turf.

On playing Liverpool for the second time this week, Rob Edwards said: “They will want to get the win and want to prove they are better after Tuesday night, but we have to try to make them relive it.”

In their FA Cup campaign, they’ve so far breezed past Shrewsbury Town in a 6-1 and edged past Grimsby Town 1-0 to reach the fifth round for the third season running – a feat that haven’t achieved since 1981.

Wanderers have won the FA Cup on four occasions, reaching the quarter-finals last season but falling short to Championship side and Midland rivals Coventry City.

The club face no fresh injury concerns since Tuesday’s surprise win against Liverpool, but midfielder Andre will miss out due to two bookings in previous rounds.

For the Reds, their league campaign has been far from ideal as they sit in sixth, with Arne Slot under pressure to deliver Champions League football to Anfield next campaign.

Their loss against Wolves made it five league games this season where they have lost due to a goal after 90 minutes, the most of any side in a single campaign in the competition’s history.

Arne Slot addressed the pattern of conceding late goals, saying, “It’s a real concern if you lose, and if you lose many times in the same manner it’s even more a concern.”

While struggling to keep control of games in crucial moments, they performed convincingly in the FA Cup this season, with two home wins against Barnsley in the third round and Brighton in the fourth round.

A club of Liverpool’s stature aims for silverware each season, with the cup competition being a huge opportunity to lift a trophy they’ve won on eight previous occasions, last being victors in 2022.

Florian Wirtz has missed Liverpool’s last three matches but will be assessed for the FA Cup match, while Swedish striker Alexander Isak continues to work towards a return in April after suffering a broken leg in winter.

Conor Bradley, Giovanni Leoni and Wataru Endo have all suffered significant injuries and remain out of the fold for the long-term.

The fifth round tie will kick off at Friday, with live coverage on BBC One/iPlayer and TNT Sports 1.
