Dave Richards was sharp before the break, saving from May and Brooklyn Kabongolo. At the other end, Jerome Prior denied Neil Farrugia and tipped away Ryan Strain's header as United pushed.

After three quick changes around the hour, United found extra thrust. Owen Stirton twice tested Prior and later saw a header clawed away as the goalkeeper preserved the stalemate.

Late on, a VAR check for a possible Livingston penalty ended with no award.

Scott Pittman departed injured in the second half, with Barrie McKay introduced.

United produced 15 attempts with five on target. Livingston registered 14 attempts, three on target.

Livingston remain bottom of the section. Next, United visit St Mirren on Sunday. Livingston host Kilmarnock the same day.
