Eintracht Frankfurt host Borussia Dortmund at Deutsche Bank Park in the Bundesliga’s Matchday 16 curtain-raiser on Friday evening, with the Hessen club looking to close the gap on their opponents to four points with a win.
Speaking in Thursday’s press conference, Dino Topmöller confirmed that Ellyes Skhiri would miss Friday’s game despite Tunisia’s elimination from the Africa Cup of Nations. The 30-year-old will rejoin the team on Monday, while Farès Chaibi is still on international duty.
In attack, Jonathan Burkardt remains sidelined with a calf injury, while Michy Batshuayi also misses out with a foot injury. That means that Ansgar Knauff will likely retain his place as the focal point of Frankfurt’s attack, while January signing Younes Ebnoutalib should start on the bench. Jean-Mattéo Bahoya is also out due to illness.
Topmöller also confirmed that Kauã Santos would start in goal, ahead of Michael Zetterer. “He’s shown himself to be in top physical and mental shape in recent weeks and months. Michael Zetterer is a great goalkeeper and an extremely good guy, he accepted the decision and is fully behind the team,” said Topmöller.
